Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto aims to complete renovations of all schools across Indonesia by 2029, as part of the government’s efforts to improve educational facilities nationwide.
“There is still much progress to be made. This year alone, we will complete 77,000 renovations. In the following years, our target is to renovate 100,000 schools in 2027, and another 100,000 in 2028. We hope that by 2029, all schools across Indonesia will have been renovated,” Prabowo said during a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday, July 20, 2026.
To accelerate the program, the government plans to distribute renovation funds directly to school principals.
The mechanism will be accompanied by oversight from school committees involving parents, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders, to ensure the transparent and proper use of the funds.
“We will send the funds directly to the school principals, with supervision from parent committees, teacher committees, and others,” the President said.
Based on reports received by the government, the initial implementation of the scheme has yielded positive results.
“The results have been excellent. If I am not mistaken, the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education has also received positive feedback [on the scheme],” Prabowo said.
Moving forward, the President emphasized that the government would continue to accelerate improvements to educational infrastructure, to create better and safer learning environments for students across Indonesia.
