Selayar Islands: Authorities have suspended the search for the missing KM Nurul Salsa passengers following an extensive 10-day operation.

The decision was made jointly with the victims’ families.

“We have decided to suspend the operation because it was deemed no longer effective,” Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii, said as reported by Antara on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Syafii added, however, that “if signs emerge, we will certainly reopen the search.”

KM Nurul Salsa sank in the waters of Selayar Islands on July 15, 2026. Of the 76 passengers aboard the vessel, 58 were rescued alive, four were found dead, and 14 remain missing.
