Bahlil Assures Indonesia Has Not Violated Gas Export Contract with Singapore

Jakarta: Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia assured that Indonesia had not violated regulations governing gas exports to Singapore.

However, the government had decided to reduce exports to meet domestic demand.

Bahlil said gas exports to Singapore through pipelines reached 409.55 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Meanwhile, the government reduced exports by only 31 MMSCFD, or around 8 percent of the total export volume.

“Under President Prabowo’s instructions, our country respects contracts and regulations. So, do not lecture Indonesia on its commitment to upholding and honoring contracts,” he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Therefore, the 31 MMSCFD reduction accounted for only around 2 percent of Singapore’s total gas consumption and was still within the limits set by the contract, so it should not be a concern.

“The reduction remains within the minimum contract limit. Our contractual limit is 91–92 MMSCFD, while the reduction is only around 8 percent. It would only violate the regulations if we reduced exports by up to 10 percent.”

In addition, Bahlil revealed that Indonesia was still supplying Singapore with 146 cargo shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG). He urged the public not to exaggerate the gas export reduction, saying it was in line with the mutually agreed contract.

“The Indonesian government, particularly the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, greatly respects the rules. However, I also ask that you not demand respect while simultaneously mocking other countries. How can you expect to be respected if you ridicule others? This is where the principle of mutual respect comes in. We must ensure equal treatment,” he said.
