REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Young attacker Mitchell Lee Baker officially assumed Indonesian Citizen status after undergoing an oath taking procession at the Office of the Directorate General of Public Law Administration (AHU) of the Ministry of Law, Jakarta, Monday (13/7/2026). PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto, DPR RI, and the Ministry of Law for supporting the smooth naturalization process.
The oath-taking procession was led directly by Director General AHU Widodo. Erick was present with members of the PSSI Executive Committee as well as Chairman of the National Team Agency, Sumardji.

Erick said that the completion of Mitchell's naturalization process is the result of good synergy between the government, Parliament, and PSSI in strengthening the Indonesian National Team.
“We at PSSI are very grateful for the outstanding support of President Prabowo, his fellow House leaders, as well as the leaders and members of Commission X and XIII. Not forgetting the special appreciation to the Ministry of Law, namely Mr. Supratman Andi Agtas as Minister of Law and Mr. Widodo as Director General of AHU who have facilitated this process very well,” Erick said.

According to Erick, the collaboration is a tangible proof of the shared commitment to improve the achievements of Indonesian football at the international level.
“This strong synergy between the government, the legislature, and the federation is a tangible manifestation of a shared commitment to continue advancing Indonesian football on the international scene,” he said.
Mitchell's naturalisation is part of PSSI's strategy of bolstering the depth of Garuda's squad. The tall attacker is projected to feature in Indonesia head coach John Herdman's plans to sharpen the forward line ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup.
“With his good posture and goalscoring instinct, Mitchell is a valuable addition to our forward line. For sure, coach John Herdman already has a plan to integrate Mitchell into the team,” Erick said.
Meanwhile, Mitchell claimed to be proud to finally officially become an Indonesian citizen. The 19-year-old admitted that he is impatient to realize his dream of defending the Indonesian national team.
“I am very happy. This is a very proud moment for me and my family, including my family who are in Indonesia. I'm really happy and can't wait to play for Indonesia soon,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell Baker was born in Melbourne, Australia, on 11 December 2006. He has Indonesian blood from his mother, Maureen Lee Baker, who has bloodlines from Yogyakarta and Semarang.
His football career began at the Hong Kong Football Club before going on to coach in Australia with Northcote City and Melbourne Victory. At the age of 15, Mitchell moved to the United States to strengthen Black Rock FC, then defended Georgetown University while pursuing his education. Early in 2026, he was selected via the MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids and was scheduled to join the club at the end of this year.
